§ 25. Municipal officers and employees.

  • The town council, by majority vote of the mayor and council, shall elect any or all of the following municipal officers: tax collector, tax receiver, tax commissioner, registrar, members of authorized municipal agencies and commissions, chief of police, town marshal, judge of the municipal court, judge pro tempore, clerk of the court, administrative clerks of the court, town physician, town attorney, superintendent of waterworks and sewerage, street superintendent, superintendent of utilities, superintendent of the public works department, and town clerk. The town council may designate if it so desires that one person shall hold more than one of the offices or positions which it may create by ordinance. The council shall fix the compensation, prescribe the duties, and specify the term of employment of each person whom it shall employ; provided, however, that if the town council fails to state the term of employment, such employee so appointed or elected by the town council shall serve only for and during the pleasure of the town council and may be removed by it from office or employment at the council's pleasure with or without cause or notice.
